How The Hunt For The Perfect Sweet Potato May Help Hawaii Farmers
I think the University of Hawaii does some really good work with agricultural development. Here, they're coming up with more productive sweet potatoes or varieties which produce better in their conditions, with their challenges. Yet if you read carefully, all they did was save seed from some traditional Hawaiian varieties, which were planted in close proximity. to one another. They planted 50 seeds and selected 12 seedlings for evaluation and development.
You know what? On a smaller scale, there's nothing stopping any individual from doing the same thing!

What a fun project....brand new little hybrid seedlings from my own home-grown seeds.

Doing a little peeking and found this. Not sure which of my crosses this is. I have labels, but will have to wait until I can move the vines around to find them...It seems really early to have roots this size. I expect this is something that I started last fall and carried through the winter.
